IT IS NO LONGER LEGAL TO USE A HANDHELD CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING A COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE.  This rulemaking will improve safety on our nation’s highways by reducing the prevalence of distracted driving-related crashes, fatalities, and injuries involving drivers of CMVs.  Through the Safety Measurement System (SMS) violating this law is a violation that will affect your personal score. This will stay on your SMS record for 36 months and  the company’s for 24 months. A driver can be fined up to $2,750 and a motor carrier up to $11,000 for violating the ban.</p>
